Charlton Athletic Community Trust Short Breaks are running two ASD youth clubs on a weekly basis.
The first one takes place on Monday evenings and runs from 6pm-8pm (but this can vary dependent on the activity).
Young people are picked up from different locations around the borough (currently The Valley in Charlton and Avery Hill Youth Club in Eltham, but this can be altered dependent on where the young people are coming from) between 5 and 5.30pm and are dropped off between 8 and 8.30pm.
Note that from Jan 9th onwards, CACT will be doing pick-ups and drop offs from home and the price will stay at £10 per week.
Activities include outings like the Jump Giants Trampoline Park, soft tennis, bowling, gym instruction, the London Eye and a Peter Pan Pantomine performance, etc.
The full activity timetable from the 5th December to the 30th January to show the kinds of activities can be downloaded here: asd-project-5th-december-30th-january.
This session requires a £10 transport contribution each week, and this can be paid in block payments or individually each week.
They also run a Saturday ASD club, running from 9.30am – 1.30pm each week. For this session, the young people are picked up from and dropped off at home, so the transport contribution is slightly higher (£25 per week). They do similar activities on Saturdays as the Monday sessions.
All of the staff work currently work or have worked at special educational needs schools. They have many years of experience in working with young people with ASD, as well as those with challenging behaviour and learning difficulties. They make sure that any young person who attends the session receives the appropriate level of support, as well as maintaining a sense of independence at the same time.
All staff are DBS-checked and they conduct home visits to young people and their families to get a good overview of what they need from them before they join the session.
